As your wedding day approaches, here are some of my top hair care tips and professional product recommendations that will have your locks shining and looking flawless on the big day!
1. Start Early: Stop Using Supermarket Shampoo
I always advise brides to begin their hair care routine at least 6 months before the wedding. The first step? Ditch the supermarket shampoos. While they may seem affordable and convenient, many of these products contain low-quality ingredients like silicones, which build up a film on the hair. This can lead to greasy, limp hair that looks flat, and it can even cause scalp issues like flakes. Instead, I recommend switching to professional products that are tailored to your specific hair needs.
2. For Curly & Color-Treated Hair: K18 Shampoo and Hair Mask
If you have curly or colour-treated hair, K18 products are a game changer. The K18 Shampoo and K18 Mask are both excellent choices for detoxifying your hair from pollutants and product buildup. The K18 Mask goes a step further by actually repairing the bonds in your hair, restoring its strength and elasticity. Plus, this can double as your everyday shampoo, so you’re getting the benefits of both cleansing and treatment.
3. Fine, Flat Hair: Lightweight Care is Key
For brides with fine or flat hair, it’s important to use lightweight products that won’t weigh your hair down. I love recommending SEMI DI LINO Density Thickening Sulfate-Free Shampoo and conditioner.
These products gently cleanse and thicken the hair without making it heavy or greasy, helping to create volume and texture without buildup.
4. Thick, Coarse Hair: Hydrate & Nourish
If you have thick, coarse hair, hydration is key. Moroccanoil Hydrating Shampoo is one of my go-to recommendations for giving your hair the deep moisture it needs. This nourishing shampoo helps to smooth and soften thick hair, making it more manageable and prepped for any style.
5. Regular Trims Are a Must
No matter your hair type, regular trims are essential in the months leading up to your wedding. I recommend getting a trim every 6 weeks to prevent split ends and keep your hair looking fresh and healthy. Healthy hair is the perfect canvas for any bridal style!
6. One Month Before: K18 Standalone Treatment
About a month before the wedding, make sure to schedule a K18 Standalone Treatment with your stylist. This treatment is fantastic for ensuring your hair is in peak condition. It provides intense hydration and strengthens hair from the inside out, so your locks are in perfect shape for styling on the big day.
7. Wella Shinefinity Standalone Treatment for Extra Shine & Color Refresh
For brides who want an added glow, I also offer the Wella Shinefinity Standalone Treatment .This color service refreshes old or faded color, providing a subtle boost to your hue while adding brilliant shine. If you prefer, the treatment can also be done with a clear gloss, which adds an extra layer of shine without affecting the color. This is perfect for those who want their hair looking vibrant and glossy.
8. Stick with Your Trusted Stylist
Consistency is key. Make sure you stick with the same hairdresser who has been cutting and colouring your hair regularly. They know your hair best and will ensure your length, color, and texture are exactly how you want them on your wedding day. If you’re thinking about making a major color change, I recommend testing it out at least a year in advance to give yourself plenty of time for adjustments, if needed.
9. Quarterly Treatments for Extra Care
Every 3 months, treat yourself to a standalone treatment that will hydrate, condition, and help maintain your hair’s overall health. These treatments help maintain that natural shine and smoothness, leaving your hair in the best shape possible for your wedding day hairstyle.
10. Support From Hair & Skin Vitamins
In addition to your hair care routine, taking hair and skin vitamins can make a noticeable difference in the health and appearance of your hair. I recommend Glowwa Hair & Skin Vitamins a clean, nutritionist-created supplement that provides essential nutrients to promote hair growth, strength, and glow from the inside out. These vitamins are all the talk in the Hair world, thanks to their clean ingredients and proven effectiveness. Incorporating them into your routine 3–6 months before your wedding will help give your hair a natural boost and ensure that your skin looks just as radiant as your hair on the big day!
